Too Late

Lyrics: Traditional
Music: Traditional

Chanted during the beam/drums section of Dead & Company's show on 6 May 2023, led by Bruce Sunpie Barnes. He is Chief of the North Side Skull and Bone Gang, one of the oldest existing carnival groups in New Orleans. The first part is from one of the traditional Skull and Bone Gang songs. I'm not sure where the second part comes from.

We are the North Side Skull and Bones Gang
We come to remind you before you die
You better get your, your life together
Next time you see us, it's too late to cry

We are the North Side Skull and Bones Gang
We come to remind you before you die
You better get your, your life together
Next time you see us, it's too late to cry

Ashes to ashes and dust to dust
You better straighten up, before you come see us
You better get your, your life together
Next time you see us, it's too late to cry

We are the North Side Skull and Bones Gang
We come to remind you before you die
You better get your, your life together
Next time you see us, it's too late to cry

Ashes to ashes and dust to dust
You better straighten up, before you come see us
You better get your, your life together
Next time you see us, it's too late to cry

We are the North Side Skull and Bones Gang
We come to remind you before you die
You better get your, your life together
Next time you see us, it's too late to cry

We are the North Side Skull and Bones Gang
We come to remind you before you die
You better get your, your life together
Next time you see us, it's too late to cry

Ashes to ashes and dust to dust
You better straighten up, before you come see us
You better get your, your life together
Next time you see us, it's too late to cry

We are the North Side Skull and Bones Gang
We come to remind you before you die
You better get your, your life together
Next time you see us, it's too late to cry

Too late, your mama can't help you
Too late, your man can't help you
Too late, you run out the door
Too late [?]
Too late, oh you run for the corner
Too late, when you do what you wanna
Too late, oh early in the morning
Too late, [?]
Too late, you see the bone guy coming
Too late, oh the north bound [?]
Too late, oh here come the dead man
Too late, oh dead man walking
Too late, and the dead man talking
Too late, I see the [?] down
Too late, I dance on the ground
Too late, ain't got no [brothers]
Too late, I don't want no [?]
Too late, [?]
Too late, there's a hole in the ground
Too late, oh too late mama
Too late, oh it's too late
Too late, oh too late mama now
Too late, oh it's too late
Too late, wake up one morning
Too late, [in your own back yard]
Too late, said the next thing you know, boy
Too late, something dead on your head
Too late, oh too late mama
Too late, oh it's too late
Too late, oh too late mama now
Too late, oh it's too late
Too late, oh mama can't help you
[etc]
