All the Jerry Garcia recordings credit the song to Lightnin' Hopkins. Hopkins' song is similar musically to the Garcia version, but with very different lyrics. This is from a 1948 recording:

It seems that Garcia's version derived more from an earlier version by Sleepy John Estes, recorded in 1935. That is shares several verses with Garcia's version, though it is musically somewhat different:

Muddy Waters reworked the song in 1955, titling it "Trouble No More" (subsequently covered by the Allman Brothers)
