Music: David Nelson
Introduced by the David Nelson Band in 2024. David Nelson introduced it on 8 May 2025:
We've got a relatively new song. We haven't been doing this song a whole lot. Bob Hunter before he died he sent me the words to this. And it took me a while but I got it together and put some music to it.Many thanks to Matt (Voretxzephyr) for alerting me to this and for help with the lyrics. Any further help gratefully received.
Gonna sing one verse and then maybe sing a little more
Sadie's got a roof rack, Sadie bought a shade for the door
Bought damn near everything in the store
Couldn't remember what she came in for
Sadie got a roof rack and I can't say no more
Can anyone direct me to a good but cheap hotel
Walking all day, my shoes don't fit too well
Getting my kicks from [?], but now they pinch
Sadie got a roof rack, that's all I can tell
Sadie got a roof rack, Sadie got a horn
Sadie got a jackhammer, sure as you're born
Sadie bought a roof rack to carry all kind of things
On top of her Cadillac, high compression springs
Carries equipment and sometimes sings
Giving her regular girls just one of her flings
Sadie got a roof rack and I got a pair of kings
Devil took the drummer, keyboard and the guitar man
Devil took the slap bass, devil took the whole damn band
When he took the roof rack, I'm telling you cats
Sadie took the flat jack hammer to his ass
Sadie got a roof rack, you know that girl's got class
Sadie got a roof rack, Sadie got a horn
Sadie got a jackhammer, sure as you're born
Sadie got a roof rack, Jimmy played the Beaumont rag
Dog plays harmonica, you know he's got a crazy wag
Jones brought the rhythm in a plain brown bag
Sadie's got a roof rack on her Jag
Even got a Caddy but she don't like to brag
Sadie got a roof rack, Sadie got a horn
Sadie got a jackhammer, sure as you're born
Sadie got a roof rack, Sadie got a horn
Sadie got a jackhammer, sure as you're born
