In The Still Of The Night

Lyrics: Fred Parris
Music: Fred Parris

One of the songs recorded for Pigpen's unreleased solo recording. The Deadhead's Taping Compendium says:

"the tape concludes with a fragmentary and comic attempt at the fifties sock hop classic, "In The Still Of The Night," complete with teen idol falsetto"
Pigpen sang just a fragment:
[a capella]
In the still of the night
I held you, held you tight
'Cause I love, love you so
Promise I'll never let you go
In the still of the night

[with piano]
Baby, oh-oh-oh
Baby, I love you, I love you, I love you so
Don't ever, ever let me go
The full lyrics from the 1956 song (written by Fred Parris and recorded by his Five Satins) are:
In the still of the night
I held you, held you tight
'Cause I love, love you so
Promise I'll never let you go
In the still of the night
(In the still of the night)

I remember that night in May
The stars were bright above
I'll hope and I'll pray
To keep your precious love

Well before the light
Hold me again with all of your might
In the still of the night
(In the still of the night)

So before the light
Hold me again with all of your might
In the still of the night
(In the still of the night)
In the still of the night
