Lyrics: Robert Hunter
Music: Robert Hunter
Sung by Robert Hunter several times in 1979. Often in setlists as "Sweet Alice".
The only reference to it that I've found was a question asked of Jerry Garcia in a 1981 interview:
"Was there much material recorded around Workingman's Dead and American Beauty that wasn't released? For instance, Bob Hunter mentioned 'Sweet Little Alice Garbanzo Garbett.' He played that when he was over here at one of his concerts."to which Garcia replied "There wasn't a lot, no."
Sweet little Alice Garbonzo Garbet
Was loved by [Ace Carzo] who flew a big jet
He flew it for pleasure, he flew it for fun
He raced it in the airshows and always he won
Singing hi-hi-diddle hi-diddle-hi-bet
Singing sweet little Alice Garbonzo Garbet
This tale isn't tragic, nor yet is it sad
This couple got married and had many tabs
The girls crocheted doilies, the boys all flew jets
Except one named Larry who played for the Mets
Singing hi-hi-diddle hi-diddle-hi-bet
Singing sweet little Alice Garbonzo Garbet
