Bare Bones: The Duo Recordings

Three download albums from Garcia/Grisman sessions. Most of the tracks are masters or alternative takes from Been All Around This World, Not For Kids Only, Shady Grove and Garcia/Grisman.

Volume 1: Master Takes

The liner notes say:
"This first volume of duo performances include seven master takes that were released on Garcia/Grisman, Shady Grove and Been All Around This World. The remaining 12 tracks, mostly from Not For Kids Only, were originally recorded as duos, but were embellished with percussion, fiddle, autoharp, vocal harmonies and yes, even insects, added while Jerry was out touring. They are presented here for the first time, in their original unadorned state."

Volume 2: Other Tunes & Arrangements

The liner notes say:
"The second volume of Bare Bones is comprised of the "original" recorded versions of tunes that became staples of the Garcia/Grisman repertoire - "Grateful Dawg", "Dawg's Waltz" and "Arabia". Also included are duo versions of other songs, all subsequently arranged for our band with bassist Jim Kerwin and multi-instrumentalist, Joe Craven - "Two Soldiers", "Take Me" and the perennial Grateful Dead favorite, "Friend of the Devil".

This collection illuminates our process of selecting and arranging the material. "The Sweet Sunny South", released on Shady Grove as a banjo duet, was originally recorded with guitar and mandolin. Other tunes, like "The Crawdad Song" and "Moonlight Bay" were only tried once and never made it into our set lists. Different arrangements of the Stanley Brother's classic "Man of Constant Sorrow" appeared on The Pizza Tapes"
