Help On Finding Dead Cover Songs
These notes provide some guidance on how to find Grateful Dead cover songs:
- it is optional whether to make selections from all or any of the choices.
If you simply leave all choices at their defaults you will get a list of all songs covered by the Dead, regardless of who sang them and how often they were played.
- you can select from one or more boxes to choose more specific sets of songs. For example:
- if you just select "Bob Weir" from "Which band member sang cover?", you'll get all the cover songs sung by Bob Weir
- if you both type "Bob Dylan" in the test box for "Who wrote/performed original" and "Bob Weir" in "Which band member sang cover?", you'll get all Bob Dylan songs sung by Weir
- to select who wrote/played original, you can either type whatever you want in the text box to the left or select from the drop-down list on the right.
The page should automatically stop you doing both at once, but it may not do so on all browsers. You'll get exactly the same results whether you type "Bob Dylan" in the left-hand box or select "Bob Dylan" in the right-hand box - the left-hand box is there to enable you to choose additional options.
- the left-hand text box for who wrote/performed the original allows you to search for composers, singers or groups.
- if you want to find all Beatles songs covered by the Dead, you can enter "Beatles".
- if you enter "McCartney", you will find all songs written by Paul McCartney and covered by the Dead. This would:
- include all Beatles songs he wrote with John Lennon
- include "That Would Be Something", which is one of his solo songs, not performed by the Beatles
- but exclude "It's All Too Much", which is a Beatles song but written by George Harrison
- you do not need to enter full names: "Dylan" will find the same songs as "Bob Dylan" will.
