Lyrics: [none]
Music: Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann
An instrumental part of the Terrapin Station Suite.
The album does not show track splits, and it is not entirely clear which part of the suite should be identified as "Terrapin Transit."
Aaron Donovan's analysis
suggests that it is the swooping Jerry Garcia guitar line immediately before
the lyrics in At A Siding.
However, the songbook "Grateful Dead Anthology" shows the music for "At A Siding"
as including both the swooping guitar introduction and the part with lyrics.
Todd Corey's analysis suggests
that "Terrapin Transit" is the short instrumental portion just before "At A Siding,"
with tinkling glass and gongs (from 8:43 to 9:20).
It was only played live once by the Dead, on 18 March 1977, along with an instrumental version of "At A Siding" and a short attempt at Terrapin Flyer - the three are often listed as "Alhambra" on track lists.
More recently, Bob Weir has played
"Terrapin Transit">"At A Siding">"Terrapin Flyer" with Ratdog and with Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros.
