She Says

Lyrics: [Jeffrey Cohen?]
Music: Bob Weir and others in Ratdog

The only one of the new Ratdog songs not make it onto the "Evening Moods" CD.

She says
We're like two stones in a stream
She says
She saw it all in a dream

I don't know where she gets this stuff
When she talks to me
Why can't I get enough?
She's a mystery

She says
She feels the stars on her skin
She says
She hears my voice from within

Sometimes I got to shake my head
But she makes me smile
If I thought too much about what she said
It might make me wild

I know it sound crazy
But I must confess
My heart is right in tune
With everything she says

She says
We all connect to the light
She says
It's always Saturday night

One foot is out of the galaxy
The other is on the ground
Any place I'm gonna be
She can come around

I know it sounds crazy
But I must confess
My heart is right in tune
With everything she says

She says
She says
She says
She says
She says
She says
She says
[etc]

In an online chat in November 2000, Bob Weir said:
"We recorded it but I don't think we really nailed it. I think it needs more time on stage. I'm kind of glad we didn't include it on the record because it's becoming more than it could have been if we'd recorded it the last go round."
In a 2005 interview, Bob Weir repeated that view, and gave more background to the song:
Q: "She Says" is one that's become a favorite and it didn't make it onto Evening Moods.

A: You know, I'm glad it didn't make it onto Evening Moods 'cause in the meantime, it's grown considerably and it's become sort of a high request item now. We'll record it and put it out. I'm not sure what format 'cause I don't know if we're ever going to make another studio record. That said, this meeting that we had this morning was about that as well because there may be no need to make another studio record.

Q: Where did "She Says" come from?

A: I wrote the music for that 20 years ago, and it's just been hanging around. And then three or four years ago-four or five years ago I guess now-I met this guy through Narada Michael Walden who's a lyricist, a local guy that he works with. And I gave him this little quip of music. He took it home and came back with the lyric. And I was sort of astounded. It was good. I'd like to work with the guy again. We just haven't recorded it 'cause we haven't gotten back to recording yet. That's probably first on the list or one of the first on the list.
I'm not sure who the lyricist refered to is. Jeffrey Cohen is a guess: he has certainly written some lyrics for Narada Michael Walden.
