Mona

Lyrics: Ellis McDaniels [Bo Diddley]
Music: Ellis McDaniels [Bo Diddley]

The Dead played this only once, in on 27 October 1991 (and once with Bo Diddley in 1972). Bob Weir played it with Kingfish in the mid-1970s and early 1980s.

This is the Dead's version from October 1991:

Chorus
Said hey Mona (note 1)
Hey oh Mona
Said hey, yeah, yeah Mona
Hey Mona

Tell you Mona what I wanna do
Build a house next door to you
I come see you maybe sometime
We can go kissing through the blind

So come on, come on, on the front
Listen to my heart go bumpity bump
Well I need you woman that ain't no lie
Without your love I'd surely die

[chorus]
Notes
(1) the first chorus is pretty confused, with some singing "Hey Bo Diddley" instead of "Hey Mona".

The version Bo Diddley sang with the Dead in 1972 is pretty short, and only includes one verse:
Chorus
Said hey Mona
Hey oh Mona
Said hey, yeah, yeah Mona
Hey Mona

Tell you Mona what I wanna do
Build a house next door to you
I come see you maybe sometime
We can go kissing through the blind

[chorus]
