Are You Lonely For Me

Lyrics: Bert Berns
Music: Bert Berns

This is often listed as "Last Train To Jacksonville", but the true title is "Are You Lonely For Me." It was played only once by the Dead, on 25 March 1972, but more frequently by Jerry with the Jerry Garcia Band.

The following lyrics are from the Grateful Dead's only performance . JGB versions are similar.

Are you lonely for me baby
Are you lonely for me baby
Are you lonely for me baby

It's the last train to Jacksonville
Gonna get on it baby, you know I will
Come on and try, go ahead and try
To forget all the pain I brought you
Go on and cry, baby, go ahead and cry
Though I'm the one who taught you
I'm lonely baby, lonely and blue
I'm lonely baby, lonely for you

Are you lonely for me baby
Are you lonely for me baby
Are you lonely for me baby

It's my last run to Jacksonville
Are you my sweet baby, are you still?
Tell your friends, it's the end
I'll never again desert you
He's laughing, baby, I can hear them laughing
They say I was born to hurt you
I'm sorry baby, sorry and blue
I'm lonely baby, I'm lonely for you

Are you lonely for me baby
Are you lonely for me baby
Are you lonely for me baby

Are you lonely for me baby
Are you lonely for me baby
Are you lonely for me baby

It's a long ride to Jacksonville
Are you my sweet baby, are you still?
Say you'll be there
I got a feeling that when I get off the train, girl
Will you be there?
I got a feeling that [you're gonna be there]
I'm lonely baby, lonely and blue
I'm lonely baby, lonely for you

Are you lonely for me baby
Are you lonely for me baby
Are you lonely for me baby

Are you lonely for me baby
Are you lonely for me baby
Are you lonely for me baby

For comparison, the original Freddie Scott lyrics are as below (his recording is available of a Legacy CD "Lost Soul"):
Are you lonely for me baby?
Yes I am
Are you lonely for me baby?
Coming home baby
Are you lonely for me baby?
Oh it's the last train to Jacksonville
I'm gonna get on it baby, you know I will
Will you try, come on and try
To forget all the pain I brought you
Go on and cry, go ahead and cry baby
I know that I'm the one who taught you
To be lonely baby, lonely and blue
I'm lonely baby, I'm lonely for you

Are you lonely for me baby?
Yes I am
Are you lonely for me baby?
Coming home baby
Are you lonely for me baby?
Oh it's my last buck, to Jacksonville
Are you my sweet baby, are you still
Tell your friend, it's the end
I will never again desert you
He will laugh, I can hear him laughing baby
He'll say that I was born to hurt you
Oh I'm sorry baby, sorry and blue
Hey I'm lonely baby, lonely for you

Are you lonely for me baby?
Hold on baby
Are you lonely for me baby?
I'm coming home, I'm coming home, I'm coming home
Are you lonely for me baby?
Coming, coming, coming, coming, coming, coming
It's a long ride to Jacksonville
No one will ever know the way I feel
Will you be there, will you be there
When I get off the train
You see you've gotta be there, you've gotta be there
I've just gotta see you again girl
'Cause I'm lonely baby, lonely and blue
I love you baby and I'm lonely for you
