Lyrics: Robert Hunter
Music: Robert Hunter
A suite of songs written by Robert Hunter. He gives the following introduction in "Box Of Rain":
"The idea for Amagamalin Street occurred to me while leaning against a building on Fifth Avenue. I was in one of those ego-flattened mindframes that visit my West Coast psyche when confronted by Manhattan. The songs in the suite are:
I began thinking about the values people must assign to themselves, and believe in despite all the evidence, in order to cope with the giganticism of Metropolis. I saw a drunk on the other side of the street making a show of himself - and I began inventing his story. I had a pencil but no paper - not a problem in New York; I picked up a handbill in the gutter for a show at the Apollo, and began to write on the back of it."
