Stormy Monday

Lyrics: T-Bone Walker
Music: T-Bone Walker

Played by Jerry Garcia with Leon Russell, Doug Sahm, Phil Lesh and Mary Egan at the Armadillo World Headquarters on 23 November 1972.

It may also have been played as an instrumental by the Grateful Dead on 12 March 1966 - usually listed as "unknown blues jam" or similar but some have identified it as Stormy Monday (thanks to Dan Franzen for alerting me to this)

The 23 November 1972 tape cuts in:

Sunday I go to church
And I get down on my knees and I began to pray

And I cried, Lord have mercy
Well Lord have mercy on me
Lord, I cried, Lord have mercy
Lord have mercy on me
Lord I'm just a white boy down in Austin Texas, and won't you tell me what else
Oh, what else can I be

And I cried, Lord have nercy
Have mercy, have mercy on me
I cried, Lord have mercy baby
Lord have mercy on me
I'm just trying to find my baby
Won't somebody please bring her home to me
All right, Stormy Monday Blues
The full original lyrics are:
They call it Stormy Monday
But Tuesday's just as bad
They call it Stormy Monday
But Tuesday's just as bad
Wednesday's worse
And Thursday's also sad

Yes, the eagle flies on Friday
And Saturday I go out to play
Eagle flies on Friday
And Saturday I go out to play
Sunday I go to church
Then I kneel down and pray

Lord have mercy
Lord have mercy on me
Lord have mercy
My heart's in misery
Crazy about my baby
Send her back to me
