Marshmallow Road

Lyrics: Hart, Melton
Music: Hart, Melton

Recorded for Mickey Hart's unreleased album Fire On The Mountain. Dennis McNally describes it in "A Long Strange Trip"

One piece, "Marshmallow Road," was written by Mickey and Barry Melton in Hart's mother's home in Sunrise City, Florida. Their means of inspiration was to lock themselves in a room with eight or ten cartons of marshmallows. After two days the LSD, the Florida heat, and the marshmallows combined into a nasty goo, and they fled the room and jumped into the nearest swimming pool.
The version from "Fire On The Mountain" has parts in barely intelligible, squeaky voices.
Why are fire engines red?
[unintelligible]

We are the Marshmallow Road
Nobody knows what we know
We've been stepped on and we like it
So march, march, march down Marshmallow Road

A marshmallow has its feelings
We're quiet and quite appealing
We don't have eyes but we can see
So march, march, march down Marshmallow Road

We don't eat, nor do we like being eaten
We don't beat, nor do we like being beaten
We're kind of small but we're not what you'd call accreting
So march, march, march down Marshmallow Road

All for one, and one for all
We're marshmallow spread from wall to wall
All for one, and one for all
We're marshmallow spread from wall to wall

Would you belive it if you were told
There's a place called Marshmallow Road
We have no dividing line
We're a road that has a mind
Not open to traffic from automobiles
We like people, people that feel so
March, march, march down Marshmallow Road

A marshmallow really knows how to live
And a marshmallow is also really smart
We built Marshmallow Road
So this story could be told
A story for young and old
You're a marshmallow [hill]
Just like me and you
And it's true, it's true
March, march, march down Marshmallow Road

Munch, munch, munch
[unintelligible]
Munch, munch, munch
[unintelligible]
Munch, munch, munch
Down Marshmallow Road
