Time Never Ends

Lyrics: Mickey Hart
Music: Hart, Weir, Haynes [Ben Yonas, Crystal Monee Hall, Tim Hockenberry]

First played on the Mickey Hart Band summer tour 2000, and subsequently by The Dead in 2004 in a revised version. The latter version was played by the Mickey Hart Band in 2011.

This is the original Mickey Hart version:

Stepping through the midnight sun
To a life that never ends
Snowflakes fall, winter comes
Time to make amends

God of wind, god of time
I give my heart to thee
Take me to a better place
Let my soul- let my soul fly free
Don't you know that?

Time goes on forever
Time it never ends
Time goes on forever
Time it never ends

A shooting star, a meteor
A wizard guiding me
Beyond the moon, beyond the stars
Beyond the galaxy

A secret place, a gentle space
A land beyond pretend
Where time stands still and always will
A world-a world of never end
Don't you know that?

Time goes on forever
Time it never ends
Time goes on forever
Time it never ends

Oh god of dreams, of life supreme
Come to me tonight
Guide me to a better place
Beyond this starry night

Take me to a better place
On golden spirit wings
Where time stands still and always will
Where gods, gods
And angels sing

Time goes on forever
Time it never ends
Time goes on forever
Time it never ends

Time goes on forever
Time it never ends
Time goes on forever
Time it never ends
This is the revised version played by The Dead in 2004:
Stepping through the midnight sun
To a life that never ends
Snowflakes fall, winter comes
Time to make amends

God of wind, God of time
I give my heart to thee
Take me to a better place
Let my soul fly free
Let my soul fly free

Beyond the moon, beyond the stars
A wizard guiding me
Beyond the moon, beyond the stars
Beyond the galaxy
A secret place, a gentle space
A land beyond pretend
Where time stands still and always will
Time stands still
Time never ends

Time goes on forever
Time never ends
No, time never ends

Footprints in the sea of time
We watch and do our thing
But all we leave behind us
Is the loving that we bring
Mother nature, northern lights
All that life can bring
The mountain spirit dances and
The evening owls sing
The evening owls sing

God of dreams, of life supreme
Come to me tonight
Guide me to a better place
Beyond this starry night
Take me to a better place
On golden spirit wings
Where time stands still and always will
Time stands still
Time never ends

Time goes on forever
Time never ends
No, time never ends
Time goes on forever
Time never ends
No, time never ends

Where gods and angels sing
Where gods and angels sing
The Mickey Hart Band version in 2011 is essentially the same as The Dead's
Stepping through the midnight sun
To a life that never ends
Snowflakes fall and winter comes
Time to make amends

God of wind, God of time
I give my heart to thee
Take me to a better place
Let my soul fly free

A wizard guided me
Beyond the moon, beyond the stars
Beyond the galaxy
A secret place, a gentle space
A land beyond pretend
Where time stands still and always will
The world of never end
Where time goes on forever
Time never ends
Where time goes on forever
Time never ends

Footprints in the sea of time
We watch and do our thing
But all we leave behind us
Is the loving that we bring
Mother nature, northern lights
All that life can bring
The mountain spirit dances and
The evening owl sings

Oh God of dreams, of life supreme
Come to me tonight
Guide me to a better place
Beyond this starry night
Take me to a better place
On golden spirit wings
Where time stands still and always will
Where gods and angels sing
Where gods and angels, gods and angels, gods and angels sing
Where gods and angels, gods and angels, gods and angels sing
Where gods and angels, gods and angels, gods and angels sing
Where gods and angels, gods and angels, gods and angels sing
Where time goes on forever
Time never ends
Mickey Hart describes the origins of the song in his road journal:
"Tonight we introduced a new one I wrote; it is called Time Never Ends. This song is very powerful. I wrote it as a sort of prayer and then I decided to not play it soft and sweet but go the opposite way with the music to gave it a ska and high life kinda groove. I think it works well in this form."
