Comes The Dawn

Lyrics: Robert Hunter
Music: Mickey Hart

One of the new lyrics written by Robert Hunter for the Rhythm Devils (Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzman). In his journal, Robert Hunter noted:

Finally got that last tune off to Mickey. I found the three syllables that tied it together and didn't have to scrap the work I'd done; just point it up a little. "Comes the Dawn."
The lyrics are:
Comes the dawn
There will not be any question about it
When it comes
There will be no further reason to doubt it

When it shows its face
Bright and shining
When it comes
There will be no more use in denying

Please tell me
There's so little you can do but re-arrange it
One thing is plain
You cannot change it

Distant music seems to rise from somewhere gladly
And beyond all times and space
And yet it sounds so familiar

Come the dawn
There will be no public ceremonial
When it comes
No one has to make a testimonial
When it shows its face
Bright and shining

No torch or candle
What do you need?
And as much as you can handle
Is exactly as much as you receive

Distant music seems to rise from somewhere gladly
And beyond all times and space
And yet it sounds so familiar

Distant music seems to rise from somewhere gladly
And beyond all times and space
And yet it sounds so familiar
